Great Bharata: The Invasion Begins

Volume One

In this thrilling retelling of the ancient Sanskrit epic, the Mahabharata, Harvard scholar Howard Resnick brings to life the grand and mystical story that has shaped South Asian culture for thousands of years.

Great Bharata is a multi-volume epic that expertly reconstructs the immemorial history of South Asia, the Earth, and the entire universe. It brilliantly weaves together the earthly, cosmic, and spiritual dimensions of an ancient classic that is unique in the annals of world literature.

The first volume in the series, Great Bharata: The Invasion Begins, focuses on the life of the character, Satyavati, a young female protagonist who goes on a great adventure. Satyavati finds her way from a humble fishing village to the center of world power, where she reluctantly plays a leading role in rescuing our planet.

A Rare Gem—A Book That Speaks Directly to the Soul!
This book moved me deeply in ways I didn’t expect.

From the very first page, I was captivated by its depth, beauty, and spiritual authenticity. The storytelling was so profound and immersive, I found myself unable to put it down, pausing only when sleep demanded it. At multiple points, tears welled up—not something that usually happens to me—but this narrative touched something sacred inside. Truly, it’s rare to find a book that feels like both a profound spiritual journey and a gripping, emotional masterpiece. If I could rate it higher than five stars, I absolutely would.
I’m already eagerly awaiting part two!

A Captivating and Authentic Retelling of Satyvati’s Story

Fantastic! This book is truly wonderful. It’s the most authentic version I’ve read—an absolute page-turner. The writing is excellent, both historically and narratively. The characters come alive, and in this particular version, I especially love Dr. Resnick’s take on Satyavati. Her character is absolutely captivating. I feel that history has often misunderstood Satyavati, but this book provides a compelling and insightful account of who she was and what might have actually happened.

A fantastic rendition, enthralling
I am happy to have received this Kindle version although I heard its Audible narration many months ago. An amazing rendition. Very gripping and moving.

Another page tuner from Howard Resnick!
A gripping read. I really felt that I got to know the characters- they seemed much more like “real” people rather than a list of names, dates and actions of the distant past. This book makes the Mahabharata come to life. I found myself wishing the book wouldn’t end. I will be purchasing the sequel as soon as it is available.
